DigitalOcean How to Change Hostname Linux

Posted on: November 17, 2015

first :
sudo nano /etc/hosts
change the 127.0.0.1 yourprevioushostname to xx.xx.xx.xx servername.domain
for example : 53.65.46.34 server1.public.caveitsolution.com

then save and :
sudo nano /etc/hostname
change to your new hostname without IP.
for example : server1.public.caveitsolution.com

third step would be :
sudo hostname server1.public.caveitsolution.com

and the fourth step would be
sudo reboot now

so the complete command would be :
1. sudo nano /etc/hosts

2. sudo nano /etc/hostname
3. sudo hostname <yourhostname>
4. sudo reboot now

Good luck
